REFLEXOLOGY
Reflexology works in number ways, firstly by stimulating and opening up various energy channels (meridians) than run through the body. Secondly the practitioner will tap into specific organs by applying targeted pressure onto the reflexes on the feet, face or hands. The reflex knowledge is gained from the foot, hand and face maps which where produced in the west in the 1920's. As the whole body is mapped onto the feet, hands and face reflexology has the potential to tap into the whole body via one area. The aim being to restore the natural equilibrium that the body strives to attain, allowing space and time for the body to take steps to restore and repair. It also can be used to gain a more in depth understanding and awareness of certain conditions, through the presentation of unbalanced reflexes. Our unique bodies with it's complex systems communicate with each other without words. I believe Reflexology has great potential to tap's into this 'internal dialogue' when we give trust and openness to the practise, providing a place where one';s whole being can be seen, cared and attended to.
What to expect ?
Initial sessions will include a health conversation, notes will be taken and you will be asked to sign a consent form for the treatment. This information will be kept confidential. This allows me to gain an insight into your health history but also gives us the opportunity to discuss any other relevant information that you may feel you want to share. Reflexology is an individualised person centered therapy, which is tailored to you, taking into account both physical and emotional factors that might be affecting your wellbeing.

I will assess movement in the ankles and work on the dorsal and plantar, stimulating the underlying fascia of the feet. Moving onto to gently massaging the feet to relax both you and your feet, working together we will establish the right pressure. We will then move onto joint diaphragmatic breathing, bringing focus and intention to the session. I will use finger walking and deep pressure to stimulate the reflexes of the whole body. Ending with a lymphatic drainage routine to help support the removal of toxins from the body.

For some reflexology may be a one of experience, however for many of my clients reflexology plays an integral part of their wellbeing. As we work together treatment plans adapt and one session is never the same, always working from what I find on the day, and also what you bring to the session. Never underestimate the value of giving yourself time and space to tune in and enter a deep state of relaxation.

After your first treatment, your body may respond in a very noticeable way, usually with a sense of wellbeing. However you may feel tired, or even nauseous this 'healing crisis' is only temporary and it is the body's way of rebalancing. If this occurs listen, take notice, rest and drink plenty of fluids. The benefits of reflexology are often subtle and initially working weekly or fortnightly for 6 to 8 weeks will give the body an opportunity to work through imbalances.
Please note that as a reflexologist I do not claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe.
